For a taste of exhilarating fun, Barnyard Swing in Cooperstown provides a delightful mix of mini-golf and a Wild West laser tag arena, perfect for a day of family bonding. Equally enchanting is the Glimmerglass State Park, boasting sandy beaches, hiking trails, picnic areas, and camping facilities for families to explore and enjoy the outdoors. The Fly Creek Cider Mill, a historic water-powered cider mill just minutes from Cooperstown, offers a unique culinary experience, with tastings of locally produced ciders and delicious treats, plus a duck pond and farm animals that children adore.

 

The Farmers’ Museum, another local gem, lets families step back in time with its living history exhibits, historic buildings, and engaging demonstrations of 19th-century rural life. Adventure seekers can embark on an unforgettable journey with Rail Explorers USA, pedaling specialty (motor assisted) rail bikes along historic railroad tracks, or enjoy a scenic excursion on the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad or the Richfield Springs Scenic Railway. Otsego County experiences four very distinct seasons with a wide array of weather patterns. The summer months are generally mild to warm, with average high temperatures in the 70s and 80s (Fahrenheit), offering excellent conditions for outdoor activities like hiking, boating, and fishing. The county is particularly known for its stunning fall foliage when autumn arrives, as the leaves change to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow, creating a breathtaking display that draws visitors from all over. The winters are typically cold and snowy, with temperatures often dropping below freezing and average snowfall exceeding national averages, which makes the region a destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Springtime brings warmer temperatures and an increase in rainfall, which helps to awaken the region’s lush vegetation and scenic landscapes.
