June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honor those who fought for equality, and recognize the ongoing work of building welcoming communities for everyone. Across Oneida, Herkimer, and Otsego Counties, Pride events bring together families, friends, allies, businesses, artists, performers, and community organizations in a spirit of inclusion, celebration, and connection.
Whether you’re attending your first Pride event, supporting a loved one, or simply looking for a fun and welcoming community gathering, there are plenty of opportunities throughout the region to celebrate Pride Month in 2026.
A Brief History of Pride
Pride Month traces its roots to the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 in New York City. Following a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, members of the LGBTQ+ community stood up against discrimination and harassment, sparking a movement that would transform civil rights in America and around the world.
The first Pride marches took place the following year, and what began as demonstrations for equality have evolved into celebrations of visibility, community, and progress. Today, Pride events honor both the achievements and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community while creating spaces where people can gather, express themselves, and feel a sense of belonging.
Pride remains important because visibility matters. For many LGBTQ+ individuals—especially young people—seeing their community celebrated publicly sends a powerful message that they are welcome, valued, and supported.

Pride Is for Everyone
One of the most common misconceptions about Pride is that it is only for members of the LGBTQ+ community. In reality, Pride events are community celebrations that welcome everyone.
Families bring children. Businesses show support for employees and customers. Faith communities, nonprofits, schools, and civic organizations participate alongside performers, artists, and advocates. Pride creates opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together and celebrate the idea that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and the freedom to be themselves.
In a world that can often feel divided, Pride reminds us of something simple: communities are strongest when everyone belongs.
Celebrate Pride Across Central New York
Whether you’re attending the Pride Festival in Clinton, joining the festivities in Little Falls, or heading to PrideFest in Oneonta, Pride Month offers countless opportunities to celebrate diversity, support local organizations, and connect with neighbors.
This June, take time to attend an event, support local LGBTQ+-owned businesses, learn about the history of Pride, or simply show up as an ally.
Because Pride is more than a celebration.
It’s a reminder that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and welcomed in the communities they call home.
