Fort Stanwix National Monument Boosts Rome, NY Economy with $6.7 Million Impact
In a recent report, it was revealed that Fort Stanwix National Monument, a treasured site in downtown Rome, NY, has significantly contributed to the local economy. The park’s impact includes $5.3 million spent in nearby communities, creating and supporting 59 jobs and generating a total economic benefit of $6.7 million.
“Fort Stanwix National Monument is proud to attract visitors from all over the globe to experience this compelling destination,” said Superintendent Kevin Wyrick. “National park tourism is a major driver in the national economy, yielding a remarkable $10 for every $1 invested in the National Park Service, and it’s a crucial factor in our local economy as well. We value the support of our community partners and are delighted to contribute to sustaining local communities in Central New York.”
On July 4, 2024, visitors celebrated Independence Day with a historic reenactment at Fort Stanwix National Monument in Rome, showcasing the monument’s $6.7 million economic impact on the region. This contribution is part of a larger trend highlighted in the 2023 National Park Visitor Spending Effects report. The report reveals that 325.5 million visitors spent $26.4 billion in communities near national parks, supporting 415,400 jobs and contributing $19.4 billion in labor income and $55.6 billion in economic output to the U.S. economy.
The lodging sector emerged as the top contributor, generating $9.9 billion in economic output and supporting 89,200 jobs. Restaurants followed with $5.2 billion in economic output and 68,600 jobs.
“I’m so proud that our parks and the stories we tell make a lasting impact on more than 300 million visitors a year,” said National Park Service Director Chuck Sams. “And I’m just as proud to see those visitors making positive impacts of their own by supporting local economies and jobs in every state in the country.”

HONOR AMERICA DAYS UPDATE 9/6/2024
Rome’s Honor America Days concert and fireworks have been postponed to Sunday due to the inclement weather.
The concert was originally scheduled for Saturday night at 7 p.m. with the Syracuse Symphony Pops Concert performing at Fort Stanwix National Monument.
With the inclement weather, organizers have pushed back the concert and fireworks to Sunday at 8 p.m.
The Honor America Day’s Parade is still scheduled for to start on Saturday at 10 a.m. rain or shine.
